Who We Are


Who We Are First Presbyterian Church is a congregation that has a willingness to be open-minded and welcome new experiences and ideas. We are committed to mission and our congregation has an abundance of talented, resourceful individuals with an active passion for local and global social issues. Because we are the only Presbyterian Church in the county, we draw from both urban and rural areas. This diversity leads to programs and teaching which reflect our desire to be relevant to all who come through our doors. Our programs and organizations include a Deacon ministry, women’s circles, men’s breakfasts and prayer shawl ministry, just to name a few. We offer many opportunities for musical participation. Our Faith Development Council provides for Sunday Church School including preschoolers through adults and also middle and senior high youth groups. The Presbyterian Church (USA) has approximately 2.3 million members, more than 10,000 congregations and 14,000 ordained and active ministers. MISSION STATEMENT "We, the members of First Presbyterian Church of Muskegon, believe in the creator God who loves us, forgives us, and through Jesus Christ offers us salvation. Through this belief and the power of the Holy Spirit we strive to be a loving, caring, nurturing, inclusive community of faith reverently serving God and all creation. We pledge to actively demonstrate the gospel in worship, education, mission, witness, and fellowship. It is our intention that all of our actions be guided by God through prayer and faith in Jesus Christ, and that we go about our lives inside and outside the church thoughtfully, diligently and with joy!"
